Hard to say if he is at fault or not. Shepard Fairey is one thing, where he used his real name, he showed his face, he personally sold things and created merchandise. It is another thing entirely, in my opinion, if you get your name famous rather than yourself. I mean, isn’t that a big idea in graffiti? Being known? Not ones’ actual self, but ones’ name. If someone are presented with an opportunity to make money off of doing what you enjoy, then it is their turn to decide if in their specific case; is this selling out? In my opinion, gallery shows and videos that are only using ones’ name and mask aren’t selling out. It is the point where one takes advantage of that attention and completely loses their original intentions where it becomes selling out. But that is only what I think
